TRIA Arquitetura, Sao Paulo apartment

This 27sqm apartment in Sao Paulo had the aim of creating a flexible space for the tenants. Due to its small size, the client requested the apartment could be moved around to suit the needs of different tenants and make the space feel homely rather than like an apartment.

Although it is one open living space, like the studio flats I am going to implement into my housing scheme, the architects wanted there to be clear distinctions between the functionalities. A concrete brick wall was built to create a division between the bedroom and the rest of the apartment. However it is not entirely filled in, rather it has a pattern which allows in more light and makes the bedroom feel more open.

A clever wood structure was included to create the illusion of more space. The structure starts as the bed base and continues around the perimeter of the apartment to create a sofa in the living room, a bench and drawer space in the kitchen.

Due to the small dimensions the furniture is all custom made so the colour choices were picked by the architects to enhance the look of space, using natural and earthy colours.
