Lim + Lu, Family Apartment in Hong Kong
The 167sqm refurbishment uses neutral colours and greenery to feed into the British and Japanese couples love for nature. The apartment is surrounded by palm trees so the refurbishment replaced the original, small, 1950s windows with large, aged-steel windows to bring in a lot more natural light making the space feel more open and big.
The living spaces are large and open plan to accommodate the families social lifestyle, the living room, dining room, kitchen, study and balcony flow seamlessly together.
The white walls are topped with oak slats to add warmth and texture to the space and rattan screens hide built in storage. In the brightest corner of the apartment is the home office, where a long l-shaped marble desk sits. The architects wanted the home space to be filled with light and plants to make the space as productive as possible. Lim + Lu highlighted how the working from home environment is becoming more and more necessary to get right within the design, finding a balance between the office and living space so it can remain 'productive yet comfortable'.
Cleverly the architects have made distinction from the open living spaces from how the private spaces such as the bedrooms are designed. The kids room is a dark, emerald green where the beds sit within cabins and built in shelving and storage. The ensuite to this room is inspired by a traditional Japanese wet room for relaxation and cleansing to take place.
