Interim Showcase
Getting ready for the show case the main things that have stood out are bettering access to light for the dwellings as natural light is a key requirement as well as has massive mental health benefits. The form of the building should be developed further to not only create more interest, but create a better use of space, light, interest and journey. For example the shops along the south of the design could have a better form with more of a stacking affect to create a different overall feeling in the walkway space.
My studio feedback highlighted:
- How there is a need for better lighting. Perhaps different height variations could add more light into the main block.
- To have the walkway open to the top to again change the feeling of the space and create more interest.
- More courtyards could be added or more openings added to the east side of the building to create more rhythm.
- Perhaps the roof garden can have a restaurant sky bar.
- Lastly, there is a clear correspondence from the ideologies from the Major Project Preparation.
PAGE ONE:
- Site analysis- connection to the pocket park
- 2 x housing schemes- showed the duplex apartments and the studio flats, the sqm of each and how many.
- 3 x concept ideas- creating a link to the pocket park using an open space, bringing the outside in. Settled for a large, open walkway that narrows toward the west.
- Brief interpretation- main focuses are wellbeing, working from home and nature. Focusing on how to better the independent small businesses and restaurants in the area.
PAGE TWO:
- Plans- only looking at the ground floor plan, how the walkway will work.
- 3D Volumetric model- showing the courtyard that is aiming to bring in more light.
- Structural research- how does the structure affect the shape of the building eg.the beams and glulam columns will depict some of the form, window and wall placements.
